David Filo is an American businessman popularly known for co-founding Yahoo! in 1994, while he was still a PhD student at Stanford University. He served as a key technologist, directing the technical operations behind the company’s global network of Web properties. He is credited with helping build Yahoo! into one of the world’s most highly trafficked websites.
David holds a B.S. degree in Computer engineering from Tulane University and an M.S. degree in Electrical engineering from Stanford University. He dropped out of his PhD program at Stanford University to focus on building Yahoo!
David is married to Angela Buenning Filo, a former journalism and photography teacher. David's wife, Angela Filo is a current board member of the Stanford University Board of Trustees.
David and his wife Angela, founded and lead the Yellow Chair Foundation, a family foundation established in 2000 that gives grants in the areas of civil liberties, public interest journalism, climate change, educational equity, global women’s movements, and US maternal health.
